About the Administrator, Clarissa Winchester

Hi, my name is Clarissa Winchester.

I hail from Huntsville, Alabama but have called Birmingham, AL home for nearly 20 years. I’ve been a homeschool mom since 2004 and began Field Trips R Us Homeschooling in 2013 to provide my children and other local homeschoolers broader access to field trips. Over the years FTRU grew to include destinations outside of Birmingham such as Mexico, Washington D.C., Dauphin Island Sea Lab and Orlando. We now have private and public school students traveling with us and our participants are nationwide.

In 2016 I became a travel consultant to better serve the needs of our participants wanting to continue our group travel, all the while continuing to offer our local field trips here at home.

I am thrilled to serve as travel advisor with a Cruise Planners brand franchise here in the Birmingham, Alabama area and feel I am doing what I was meant to do! I believe travel has always been in my blood as my father hails from Mexico and took us to visit many times. I am also a former Cast Member at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida with the Disney College Program in the 1990s. My background outside of being a stay-at-home homeschool mom includes public relations studies at Auburn University, camp counselor, teacher and field trip coordinator at various outlets in the South East as well commercial business management in Birmingham. Welcome to our home on the web and we hope to see you at an event soon!

Tabitha Hanner

Tabitha Hanner is a former pre-K teacher turned homeschooling mom of an only.  Now she spends her days blogging, homeschooling, serving on the board at the local library, and field-tripping.  Her favorite part of homeschooling is the freedom it gives to travel and explore.  Fortunately, her son has already inherited her wanderlust.  She is passionate about history, “real-life learning” and libraries.  When not on-the-go, she enjoys good books, good coffee and naps.

Norma Pennington

Hi.  My name is Norma Pennington.  I am a homeschooling, part time secretary, wife, mom of 6, and grandmother of 4!  Wow, when you write it all down it sounds exhausting.  Haha   But I love it!  Even though we only have one left at home, Grace who is 13 and in the 8th grade, our adventures haven’t stopped.  We have been homeschooling for 7 years now and boy………has it been a journey.  Some good, some not so good, but all worth it.  Field Trips R Us has been a staple in our homeschool since the beginning of our journey.  Our family has been able to go places and have so many amazing adventures just by being a part of this group.  I really look forward to the future and continuing to be a part of this amazing group!

Sonja Angell

My name is Sonja Angell. I have two girls who I have homeschooled over the past 14 years. We like to learn new things and go adventuring whenever we can. Field Trips R Us has been an invaluable resource in helping us connect with the community around us and also to explore the wider world that was so new to us when we first moved to Alabama. I am excited to have this opportunity to give back to this great group, and I hope to be able to help it continue to be the great field trip resource that it has been for us. When I’m not running hither and tither, I enjoy being pampered by my wonderful husband, playing video games, and swimming in my pool.
